Skin tags are more common than you may think.
Medically known as acrochordons, they are common growths on the skin that resemble small moles and vary in size from 1 to 5mm.
Despite their appearance, they are typically harmless and occur in about 60 per cent of adults, often after the age of 40.
Whilst they may not always be aesthetically pleasing, attempting to remove them at home is not a good idea and we would always recommend using a professional for safe and effective removal.
Here's why.
1. Improved Aesthetics
Removing skin tags enhances the appearance of the skin, making it look smoother and boosting your self-confidence.
2. Increased Comfort
Skin tags can sometimes cause irritation, especially if they are located in areas prone to friction, such as underarms or around the neck. Removing them eliminates this discomfort.
3. Preventing Complications
Skin tags can occasionally catch on clothing or jewellery, causing pain or bleeding. Removal prevents potential complications and the associated inconvenience.
4. Hygiene Benefits
Skin tags can create tiny crevices where sweat and bacteria accumulate, potentially leading to hygiene issues. Removal can simplify skin care routines and promotes better hygiene.
5. Peace of Mind
Although skin tags are usually benign, their removal can alleviate any worry about changes in their appearance or discomfort, providing peace of mind and eliminating the need for ongoing monitoring.
